XXXTentacion was a rapper from Plantation, Florida that was one of the leading figures that spearheaded the Soundcloud rap genre during the late 2010’s, and was also hugely influential in the creation of the emo rap genre, both of which reached their peak popularity from around 2016 - 2019 . In 2014, along with fellow artist Ski Mask the Slump God, XXXTentacion founded a rap collective by the name of Members Only. On June 18, 2018, he was killed while trying to buy a motorcycle at a dealership while he was only 20 years old.
His music was extremely versatile, while covering many themes that resonated with me. Some of his songs are extremely aggressive and great for when you want to get pumped up, taking heavy influence from metal music - while some of his other songs are more slow and somber in tone. Many of his songs covered dark themes and uncomfortable topics, which lead to a very personal connection for many listeners.
